CHONAK (BARRAMUNDI) A MONSTER FISH

CHONAK (BARRAMUNDI) the fish which is saltwater and freshwater sportfish being targeted by many. The fish which is costly and loved by many of goans and in many other places for it's better taste. These are the giant fish which is been caught 60kg max. Catching this fish is a big deal for a fisherman because you have to struggle lot to pull out this fish out of water . This fish are been caught by nets , live baits and lures. In Goa it been prepared with recheado or is been coated with suji and pan fried  . This fishies are know for their good fighting ability and therefore they are difficult for tackeling . And one fact about CHONAK is that most individual maturing as male and becoming female after at least one spawning season. My first CHONAK caught was about 3-4 kg as it was a small sized fish but it took me very hard efforts to pull it out .it was great feeling for catching that fish for the first time. We were using live shrimps as bait ,after a long time of pesions the fish was on hook. To catch a CHONAK you should look for deep spot ,rocky riverside and trees,bushes or mangroves within the water where a Barra may hide. Use strong and shiny lures,line, rods and reels.
